“Very insightful, many facts I didn’t
know about Panamanian baseball.” – Dave, on "A Fan's Guide To The World Baseball Classic,"
available at the Buy Joe's Guides page.
Years before collective Dominicans, Venezuelans and Mexicans took
Major League Baseball by storm, it was a small but very noteworthy group of Panamanians in the 1970s that first proved
that talent could be found in multiple quantities across the Caribbean. Three of them were also Pirates: Manny Sanguillen, Rennie Stennett and Omar Moreno.
The Panamanian trio were baseball's original 'Pirates from the Caribbean' and they
each own World Series rings to boot. But
no Panamanian is as accomplished as Hall-of-Famer Rodney Carew, or likely future Hall-of-Famer, Mariano Rivera, who owns four
World Series rings.
Panama has
been a participant in the World Baseball Classic, and you can learn all about Panama's baseball history in World in a Ballpark: Baseball Goes Global, which is available for purchase at the Buy Joe's Guides page. Also, enjoy this small collage of Panama
baseball. If you want to view a sample of the guide and how easy the guide
works, visit the MLB Ballpark Trips page.
